Single Coil Tele

Is ash a good wood for a tele?
I play guitar for my church. Right now I have an Ibanez RG with an EMG 81/85 combo. It’s way too brutal for worship music so I was thinking of getting a standard telecaster. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Ash-Standard-Tele?sku=517885
I don’t know much about woods for guitars with single coils. I know Mahogany is good for a heavier sound on guitar with hummies but for a bright twangy sound is ash good enough even though it’s not the best?
Ash is great for a Tele. Nice bright sound with sustain. The only drawback to ash will be the weight. Your looking at 9 to 10 pounds for the guitar as opposed to 7 to 8 with a Tele made of poplar (also a great wood for Tele’s) I recommend checking out Warmoth site for a good description of woods and the tones they tend to produce.

DiMarzio Red Velvet Single Coil Guitar Pickup $59.95 The difference between a vintage Strat bridge pickup sound and a classic Broadcaster or Tele tone is mostly a matter of attack and definition – the Strat stings and screams, while the Tele punches and sings. DiMarzio thought it would be neat to have a Strat pickup that does both, and this is it. The punch comes from the bottom-loaded Power Plate, the sting from custom coil-winding and the Blue Velvet magnet stagger, and a unique mid-range “growl” that’s a result of a hand-calibrated magnet structure. Try a Red Velvet bridge pickup with a pair of Blue Velvet pickups for a sound that’s both classic and new. |

DiMarzio DP178 True Velvet Tele Bridge Pickup $54.95 The sound of a great vintage Tele bridge pickup – if you can find one – is almost magical. It blends elements that shouldn't be able to coexist: sizzle and warmth, sharp attack, and smooth sustain. In other words, it has depth. Single notes have weight and presence, and chords have detail and dimension. This was the goal for the True Velvet T Bridge. Controlled-tension coil winding, custom wire and hand-calibrated magnets give the True Velvet The real vintage sound, and double wax potting ensures that it's squeal-free.Recommended For: Standard Tele bridge position.Like the Twang King Bridge model, the sonic goal was to combine the best tonal qualities of several Broadcaster and Telecaster pickups from the '50's and early '60's. The difference is the size of the sound. The True Velvet T Bridge is bigger, and there's greater dynamic range, from soft to loud. |

Seymour Duncan Antiquity Telecaster Bridge Single-Coil Pickup $89.95 Seymour Duncan has a great time re-creating the beauty of an early ’50s lead pickup Tele. Using vintage techniques, each pickup is hand-fabricated and scatter-wound. All parts of the pickup are aged and given the look of a pickup played for 40 years! Like the originals, the ferrous bottom plates are not wax-potted for that “breakin’-up Tele twang tone” that’s just on the verge of feedback. The pickups are Dun-Aged and come with mounting hardware, schematics, and tons of tone. The hookup wire is the classic “p back” cloth-braid wire. |

Seymour Duncan STR52 Five-Two Telecaster Rhythm Single-Coil Pickup $83.95 Here’s how the Five-Two concept works: Seymour utilizes sand cast alnico 5 magnets on the three low strings. This adds more definition and punch to the bottom end. Seymour uses sand cast alnico 2 magnets on the three high strings. This gives the player a warm and smooth top end without sacrificing that great Tele “twang.” Tele players often complain that their low strings sound “mushy” and their high strings are too bright – especially in the bridge position. The Five-Two concept counteracts this phenomenon. If you look closely at the pickup, you can actually see the difference between the two magnet types. The result is an all-around, extremely well-balanced pickup. The Five-Two has traditional output and vintage appointments such as vulcanized fibre bobbins, formvar wire, a vintage magnet stagger and waxed cloth hookup cable. A custom bridge version is available for more output in the bridge position and a reverse wound, reverse polarity middle pickup can be used to create a hum-canceling effect when used t |
