Need help with Fender guitar?
I just bought a Fender Squier Bullet Strat, I don’t care that people say it’s a crap guitar or it’s generic.
It’s a definite step-up from my 10 year old sized guitar, which was good at the time when I got it because I was 10.
I’ve never had a guitar with a whammy bar, and I’m not understanding how to use it. I can’t push it down so it’s closer to the body and whatever way I move it, it doesn’t make any difference in sound when I’m using an amp, am I not doing something right?
And I’m just wondering what the point of the little cone shaped knob is that moves back and forth?
I play the acoustic, so I’m not used to all this junk.
Hello, Molly! First of all, do not concern yourself with what anyone else says about the guitar you own. The only important factor is whether you like it! As far as the tremolo bridge, this is a floating arrangement that allows both pulling up and pushing down the tremolo bar to get a vibrato effect. Try pushing the bar down towards the body for dips in pitch, or pulling it up away from the body for bending effects. Rapid up and down movements generate a wavering tone. If this does not work, you will need to remove the back cover plate to find out why the bridge is not moving. The little cone-shaped knob is moved in line with the switch to select which pickup is going to play through your amplifier. Starting with the knob pointed towards the output jack, the selection is called Position 1 and is the Bridge pickup. Next is Position 2, which is the Bridge and Middle pickups played together. Position 3 is in the middle of the travel and is (surprisingly enough!) the Middle pickup. Next is Position 4, which is the Middle and Neck pickups together.
