I need help with my distortion pedal?

I just bought a BOSS distortion/overdrive pedal. It has 4 dials each labeled: level, tone, drive and color.

Level: This is basically the same thing as Volume…..Set this so that you get about the same volume through the amp when the pedal is on and off, so that when switching there is no major drop or increase in volume.

Tone: This adjusts essentially the ‘highs’, turn it up and sound becomes ’sharper’ letting more ‘highs’ through, turn it down and the sound becomes ’softer/warmer’ cutting the higher frequencies.

Drive: This is simply how much overdrive/distortion is applied to the signal.

Color: This determines the balance between overdrive and distortion. Turn it up and you get a higher proportion of distortion, turn it down and get a higher proportion of overdrive. Use this wisely, as there is a big difference between overdrive and distortion.
